Background

The redevelopment of the Old Fire Station began on August 10th 2010 and is due to open on November 5th 2011. Since June 2011 Sarah Hughes has worked as artist in residence to document the redevelopment of the space, responding to the changing aesthetic and gradual formation of it into a community space for arts, theatre, dance and socialising. The redevelopment is funded by Oxford Council and Crisis, the national charity for single homeless people. Crisis will open a Skylight Centre, offering practical, creative and vocational workshops and accredited learning programmes. There will also be a Skylight Cafe, open to the public and available for use by artists and arts organisations.
